ABOUT US

Why Hire an Architect?

Some people think they don’t need an architect……..until they realise what a difference the right one makes.

At Matthew Jones Architects, we don’t just draw plans — we design buildings that work beautifully, add value, and feel right to live in.

Builders and plan drawers can get you through planning, but as RIBA Chartered Architects, our job goes much further. We turn your ideas into a clear, buildable vision — solving problems before they cost you money and making sure every decision adds value to your project.

What We Do That Others Don’t ….

  • We design around you — your lifestyle, your site, your budget. Not a standard template.

  • We see the big picture — planning, structure, light, space, and how it all comes together.

  • We protect your investment — by managing risks, clarifying costs, and helping you make smart decisions.

  • We speak builder and client — translating design ideas into clear information that keeps your project on track.

  • We’re accountable — as RIBA Chartered Architects, we’re professionally regulated, fully insured, and committed to high standards of design, safety, and ethics.

Our Process Solves Problems Before They Start

Every project has hidden challenges — planning restrictions, construction details, neighbour issues, or unexpected costs.
Our role is to uncover and resolve them before you start building.

We:

  • Test different design options to get the best out of your site.

  • Liaise with planners and engineers early to avoid delays later.

  • Provide technical working drawings that make your builder’s job clear and efficient.

  • Oversee the project during construction to ensure the design intent is built correctly.

In short, we think three steps ahead so you don’t have to.

Speak Plainly. Deliver Beautifully.

We cut through the jargon and explain every stage in clear, straightforward language. You’ll always know what’s happening, what things cost, and why decisions matter.

Good design isn’t just about how something looks — it’s how it feels to live in, how well it functions, and how confidently you can build it.

Why Our Fees Are Worth It

Our fees are a small fraction of your total build cost — but they have the biggest impact on how well your project works, how much value it adds, and how enjoyable it is to live in.

Think of our involvement as the thin end of the wedge: we shape the brief, define the quality, and protect you from expensive mistakes. Every decision we help you make early on saves time, stress, and money later.

We don’t compete with builders on price or speed — we compete on thought, clarity, and design quality.

The Clients We Work Best With

We work with homeowners, developers, and housing clients who value design, quality, and long-term thinking.
If you want your project to be well-designed, well-built, and well-managed — not just “done” — then you’ll understand the value of working with an architect.

  • For example, people come to us when…..

  • They want something a bit different or bespoke

  • They have a planning challenge and need a creative design solution

  • They have difficulty obtaining planning permission

  • They simply want help and guidance from someone they can trust to help move their project forward

  • They have a tight budget but still want something a bit special

  • They want to unlock their homes potential

If you are thinking about new ideas for your home and not sure where to start, why not give us a call to discuss your project potential?

By choosing Matthew Jones Architects, you’re choosing a team that designs to the highest professional standards, helping your project stand the best chance of gaining planning approval. We also ensure your project runs smoothly from start to finish, managing the process so you can focus on your vision rather than the details.

If you’re ready to transform your home or development, we’ll guide you through every stage — from initial concept to completion — making the journey clear, manageable, and enjoyable.

  • BA (Hons) Dip.Arch RIBA ARB
    Director, Chartered Architect

Matt is the director of Matthew Jones Architects and a RIBA Chartered Architect. He began his career in North Wales as an Architectural Technician, before completing his architectural training at Birmingham and Liverpool Universities, qualifying in 1998.

In the years that followed, Matt worked with several established practices across the Midlands and North West, gaining wide-ranging experience on urban regeneration and heritage projects — including the redevelopment of the former Listed Liverpool Airport Terminal and Hangar buildings and the East Village regeneration scheme in Liverpool.

He returned to North Wales in 2004, co-founding Tarmaster Jones Architects, before establishing Matthew Jones Architects in 2012.

Matt is involved in every stage of the design process — from the first sketch and client briefing through to overseeing construction on site. He brings creative thinking and technical rigour to each project, ensuring design quality is carried through from concept to completion.

He’s known for his innovative design approach and his ability to challenge and refine a brief, helping clients make the most of their site, budget, and vision. His particular expertise lies in high-quality residential architecture — from bespoke one-off homes and apartment developments to sensitive heritage and conservation projects.

Matt’s passion lies in creating thoughtful, buildable architecture — designs that respond to place, add long-term value, and improve the way people live

Getting Started with Your Project

The first step in getting your project underway is a consultation — this could be a simple phone call to one of our offices, or a face-to-face meeting at our studio in Deganwy or Mold. Either option is a great way to start exploring your ideas and see if we are the right fit for your project.

In-Studio Consultation

Our in-studio consultation is a 30-minute meeting designed to introduce you to our practice, show examples of our work, and discuss your project in detail. During the meeting, we will:

  • Understand your design brief, goals, and priorities

  • Explore the feasibility of your proposals and how they could be realised

  • Explain the design process from concept through to completion

  • Discuss fees, costs, and project timescales

  • Outline the key statutory obligations, including planning consent, Building Regulations compliance, and the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM)

  • Clarify the roles and responsibilities of you as the client, our team, and any other consultants involved

Our Approach

We approach every project with honesty and clarity. From the very beginning, our aim is to give you a clear picture of the proposed project, including potential costs, challenges, and opportunities.

All work is carried out by, or under the supervision of, a RIBA Chartered Architect, who will guide you through every stage — from initial design and planning, through construction, and on to project completion.

We adhere to the RIBA and ARB Code of Conduct, ensuring the highest professional standards, ethical practice, and commitment to delivering value for money. Our goal is to manage challenges creatively and professionally, so you can feel confident in both the design and the process.

BIM AND THE DESIGN PROCESS

At Matthew Jones Architects, we use the latest digital design technology to make your project smoother, smarter, and more predictable. One of the key tools we use is BIM — Building Information Modelling.

What is BIM?

BIM is more than just a 3D model. It’s a digital version of your building that contains all the key information about every part of the design — from walls and windows to plumbing, wiring, and materials. As the project develops, the model evolves too, keeping everything accurate and coordinated.

Why We Use BIM

BIM allows our team — architects, engineers, and consultants — to work from a single, shared digital model, so everyone is always on the same page. This means fewer mistakes, faster problem-solving, and better coordination across all aspects of your project.

What This Means for You

For clients, BIM makes the building process easier to understand and more transparent. You can:

  • Visualize the finished building in 3D before construction starts

  • Explore alternatives and see the impact of design choices in real time

  • Make informed decisions based on accurate information

  • Reduce costly mistakes and delays during construction

  • Keep the project on track, saving time and money

In short, BIM helps us deliver a better building, more efficiently, while keeping you fully informed and in control throughout the process

“We approached MJA help remodel our home, we were open to alternative ideas and they blew us away! We now have a contemporary and spacious extension that we are proud to show off.”
